Dear SOS membership;

As most of you will know by now, our beloved community of Goderich has been devastated by a tornado. While mine and Wayne's home is 10 minutes from town Goderich is our primary centre for all business and I have always considered it "my town".  Many of you will have seen some of the photos which show the destruction but do little to convey the sense of urgency and appeal. I send you all this note to let you know my family (children, sisters, nieces, nephews) - most of whom live within Goderich - are fine. Of course seeing the aftermath the reality is that had this hit on Monday,  myself along with many others I'm sure, would not have been so truly blessed to have all family safe despite the damage to homes and cars and businesses.
We have two members who lives within Goderich and as yet have not spoken with Phyllis, the other being my daughter, and she is fine. These are early days yet and so many of or communications are down. Other members, like myself, live close by and Goderich is their town too. This is to be a difficult time for everyone.
My thoughts and prayers are with the family of the mine employee who lost his life in the tornado and to all those who have suffered injury and loss during this time. It will be a very long road to recovery and it is unlikely our town will ever again be,  " the prettiest town in Canada" as it had been justly labelled for many many years.
